ABERFELDY STORIES:
COLOURS OF HOME
2022
A series of public natural dyeing, foraging and craft workshops to co-design a local colour palette for Aberfeldy Village and Poplar area
PROJECT OUTCOMES:
- 1 Foraged & Found: Natural Dye Workshop and Foraging Walk, gathering local plants for dyeing experimentations
- 1 From The Kitchen: Natural Dye Workshop exploring kitchen cupboards, compost bins and local food shops as rich resources for colour
- 2 Tassels Craft Workshops, using the fabrics dyed during the workshops, some of which contributed to a public textile artwork
- 1 locally-sourced colour palette developed through the workshops
The Colours of Home workshops were a public engagement element of a wider public art installation created by artist Lola Lely for Aberfeldy, who created a series of banners through low-waste, hyper-localised processes using a colour palette of locally sourced natural dyes that was developed in our community workshops.
The project is part of a wider community-led programme Aberfeldy Stories co-created with local people to celebrate Aberfeldy’s rich community history and knowledge, alongside the area’s evolution as a hub for innovators and social enterprises.
